Corporate RSS gets a lift from blogging.
Corporate internal communications have typically been a one way street, a way for the corporation to disseminate information to it’s body of employees quickly and conveniently. Traditionally, transparency is not a pilar of corporate internal communications. But thanks to blogging, and blog technology, corporate intranets are going two-way.
Thanks to RSS and blog technology, companies are opening their intranets to comments from employees and easier access to feedback. Some have even taken it so far as to create a type of social network site, like Universal McCann - whose Intranet 2.0 goes beyond intranet or even two-way communication. Universal McCann may be an extreme version of where this could go, and no doubt a unique corporate environment, but it signals that this movement has legs and will continue to grow.
You don’t have to go as far as Universal McCann to open the feedback loop to employees. Blog technology provides an easily updatable CMS (content management system) for anyone in the organization to update the company intranet, and provides an even easier way for employees to leave comments and feedback throughout the site.
It’s easy to get caught looking forward at social media, and the big opportunities that lie in marketing through social channels, but don’t forget the value of happy employees and timely feedback.
