Everyone is aware of some of the larger url shortening services like tinyurl.com and is.gd. Those services work ok but they don’t provide any kind of information for you. Enter cli.gs.

Cli.gs is a new url shortening service that takes it to a new level. Of course it takes a long url like http://www.rssapplied.com/blogmarketing.html and shortens it down to http://cli.gs/mEbEhT but it takes this one step farther by providing a plethora of statistics for the url. The stats it provides are:

• Total hits
• Mentions of the original url on twitter, blogs and the web
• Mentions of the clig on twitter, blogs and the web
• Delicious book marks to the original url
• Total number of links to the original url

Another nice feature of using cligs is that you can create multiple cligs for the same url. This means you can use one clig on twitter, one clig on plurk and another one in your status message on myspace. Then when you log in to clig you can see the various tracking for each clig so you know where your traffic is coming from. Cligs also forward with a permanent 301 so you get full SEO benefits from the links.

As far as we can tell this is the first url shortening service that offers these kind of tracking abilities. Do you know of any others?
