Teaching Employees How to Blog
If you have a company blog, someone is providing content for said blog. Chances are great that this person is posting because he or she is the only person who understands how to use the site. Whether you have one or 10 people posting to your blog, blog training is critical to providing great content.
- Blogs are two-way communication devices. This is not the place for consistent posting of press
releases. - Engage your customers and readers with a less-formal style of writing and questions seeking their experiences and opinions.
- Double check all information, links and spellings, don’t send out sloppy copy just because it is a blog post.
- Don’t misrepresent yourself. Ever. Period. Negative word of mouth on the net is like wildfire. Nobody wants that kind of bad press.
- Don’t give every single detail about the company’s inner workings. Transparency doesn’t mean sharing every thing.
- Respond to every comment with a personal email, when possible. These are your best leads.
- If you can’t, respond in the comment section to multiple comments at a time.
- Don’t share personal information on a company blog.
- Don’t fill it full of links and promo material for your products. Yes, that information is important, too, but find a balance…a blog needs to be more than an advertisement.
- Apply the feedback from your readership, then let them know you took action.
- Keep it simple, your blog doesn’t have to be a huge ordeal…relate to people in a way that they can understand.
- And, most importantly, read other blogs! This is your key to staying up to date in your industry and learning best practices.
No one is born knowing how to write a blog post…so take a little time and create a well-written blog post. It can make the difference between reaching your audience and having zero followers.
