Social Media Marketing: User Generated Content, Part 2
Social Media Marketing has several ways in which it is different from traditional marketing. But one of the largest, most impactful ways, is user generated content.
User generated content is material published to the web through through non-traditional channels. This content can come in any number of forms, written, video, podcast or mp3 files, photography…and being user generated often means there is no gatekeeper, or screening process.
This can be great news for your business…essentially, you become a micro-publisher. Responsible for the quality, quantity and promotion of your material. Congratulations!
But in a world where no boundaries exist, information is spewing from every outlet. What can you do to make your work stand out?
- Quality, quality, quality. Do not publish sloppy materials of any kind.
- Get clear on your brand. If you have any internal brand confusion, that is only going to worsen with social media marketing.
- Build a strategy. Don’t just jump into the pool hoping you can swim…have a plan.
- Show up consistently. Each profile, each keyword, each tag, each talking point.
Use the above bullets as guidelines and your material will float to the top. Take advantage of user generated content and market your business with sound principles.
