Social Media Marketing and Odeo
Social media marketing and ODEO…yes the two do go together, but it took me a bit of digging to understand how this video and audio aggregator would be more than just a great place to tune in for my favorite podcasts.
It is critical, as you add components to your social media bag of tricks, that you understand the value and practical applicability of each one. It is fine to have certain sites that are just for fun, as long as you realize that is their purpose. By not investing a bit of time in understanding the practical uses (if there are practical uses), you risk losing hours down the black hole that social media can become.
When I initially looked at ODEO, I wasn’t convinced that it would be of great use to me, other than it offered some terrific shows…But, as I thought more about it and explored some of the topics, I started to understand the value of its platform for promoting and branding services, as well as serving as a big time saver in reducing my need to search the entire web for pertinent shows.
Right off the bat you will notice there are great business and technology channels. This is a huge time saver when you have a few minutes to spare for learning and professional development. It will also help you stay on the edge of best practices for your field.
You can sign up for specific channels and be alerted when new content is available. You can also find others who share similar interests and use this as a way to network…though again, I would caution about investing too much time until it is clear what the return on your investment might be.
The underlying bonus is that you can submit your audio and video podcasts to ODEO to ensure that you are listed. A great opportunity for you to promote your latest ‘cast and get it in front of hundreds of additional pairs of eyes.
While I would not give ODEO huge ratings as a standard business application, it is an efficient and effective way to find and track the audio and video information most important to you, as well as a great opportunity for you to get your work out there.
