Search Engine Visibility and Social Media

Search engine visibility is critical if you want to drive traffic to your blog…but then I am not telling you anything that you don’t already know (right?). But what you might not know is that there are many ways to build that traffic…some of which you can be doing in your every day social media interactions.

  • Did you know that every time you use Twitter, your tweets are indexed by Google? Whatever you tweet; your links, keywords, name and anything else for that matter, will show up in the search engine results. And that drives traffic two ways…one, people will find you on twitter, where your bio should contain your blog address. Two, repetition of links will help Google realize just how important your blog is…especially if each time you list your link, you use your keywords. The same is true for other microblogging sites like Identi.ca, Plurk, etc
  • When you create a profile on a community site, do you include links to your pages in your signature? That’s another great way to get repetitive linking. Always make sure your profiles have the link or links to all of your blogs.
  • How about community sites? Do you know that on a Ning site you can add a link in your comment? Every time you have the opportunity to leave your link in a comment in a relevant and meaningful way, do it. But…don’t be obnoxious about it or no one will read your comments.
  • Also, remember that social bookmarking sites, like StumbleUpon, offer blogging space on your profile page. Re-purpose your blog content and post it there. Add a link to your site and you are building credibility and linkage.

These are easy ways to build search engine visibility into your daily tasks. If you start incorporating it into every day socializing, you will get double the bang for your social media buck!
