Promote Your Blog

The basics of blog promotion can not be ignored; submission to search engines, RSS syndication, press releases, interaction on forums, podcasting, your URL on your email signatures and on all of your promotional materials and business cards.
And then there is the simple flier.
Lynda had a small canvas and upholstering business that catered to the boating community. She had built her business from scratch and enjoyed her craft so it was no big deal for her to write tips and advice on canvas and upholstery care in her blog.
Most of the vendors serving the same small boating community that she serviced were not her direct competition and Lynda had noted that none of them had an online presence.
In exchange for doing an occasional post about their service on her blog, they in turn prominently displayed her fliers. And of course those fliers included an invitation to read her blog. She next looked at the marinas and boating clubs that catered to her customer base and invited them to send her an article on a weekly basis about their upcoming events in exchange for displaying her fliers in their restaurants and bars.
Lynda simply looked at her customer base and assessed all of the non-competing vendors and businesses that her potential customers would likely use in the course of boating. It was a simple matter of working with those affiliates in exchange for a mention on her blog in order to reach their customers and add them to hers.
The use of a blog does not negate the necessity of orthodox promotional tools. A flier is still a useful marketing tool and can be quite effective in creating new traffic to your blog.
