Podcast Marketing: Get People’s Attention
Podcast marketing is often overlooked…and without a strategy, yours will be lost in the sea of recorded material. Start with getting people’s attention.
Do you have a title for your podcast that is clever, engaging AND likely to be found in a search? How do you know what your listeners are searching? Think about your focus, then use that as the beginning for your title.
Identify keywords that your users would use to find you. There are any number of sites you can use to to automatically generate keywords. And if you are blogging, as well as podcasting, this is a great way to link everything together. Use the free keyword generator at Google AdWords to get a sense of what words people associate with your topic.
Always remember that when you identify your keywords, use them consistently in your printed and audio materials. Not only does this make it easier for the search engines to find you, but your listeners will start to associate specific topics with your podcast.
Create a name with impact. Design a name for your feed that has panache, that gets people’s attention. For example, would you be more likely to listen to “Business Podcast” or ‘Exceptional Entrepreneur” podcast? Or try using a short phrase with a subtitle, “Building a Business: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” Keep a balance between searchable language and creativity.
Remember, your podcast’s title will be one of the main ways people decide to choose you from a long list of other podcasts. Make sure it has punch so you will stand out and be noticed.
