Optimizing Right - Readers Are People, Too.
Do a Google search on “blog optimization” and you will come away thinking search engines are the only ones who read blogs. It’s fascinating how the idea of optimization seems to ignore the land of the living. Don’t misread me, SEO is critical to your blog being found by the right readers. But “readers” are the end game, and optimization strategies cannot leave out the most important component of a successful blog - readership.
One of the first things that I recommend for “human blog optimization” is to picture your customer. Mentally visualize the person who you want to connect with using your blog. The goal should be from each blog post, or the collection of blog posts, to have this person MORE connected to your company’s brand. Websites are a series of static webpages - content that is meant to provide a consistent marketing message for your company. By adding a blog, you are giving your website a dynamic, personal voice. Your blog will humanize your website, so it’s important while optimizing that you never forget this goal.
Here are 3 great reminders for optimizing your blog posts for the reader:
1. Read it aloud. Sometimes this is the easiest way to edit for readers.
2. Visualize the customer.
3. Don’t be afraid of writing with personality. Blog SHOULD feel more personal. Even Enterprise blogs can break away from the cold marketing monotony and give the enterprise company a personality.
