It would seem that most businesses these days are still not getting involved in business blogging. Here are some statistics from an article published on eMarketer.com:
- Only 5% of UK corporations use blogs on a regular basis
- 5.8% of Fortune 500 Companies have a public blog
- 1.5% of Forbes 200 Best Small Companies have a public blog
I find these numbers very interesting because according to the same article, 85% of marketers think that an effective web presence is important in achieving sales and marketing objectives.
So what are these companies missing? First of all, having a blog can create added exposure to your site that you might not have otherwise. Having a blog is key to getting your site or company noticed in the social blogosphere. It can help you to create some buzz about your site’s products or services.
Secondly, having a blog is a great thing to do from an SEO standpoint. By having a blog attached to your site you can constantly add to your site’s content – something that search engines like to see. It also gives you a chance to create some additional links to your main site that can also help with search engine rankings.
Personally, I take this information as good news. It means that now is a great time to get involved in business blogging because a lot of the bigger companies are not doing it yet. Now is the best time to start to get yourself noticed in your niche through blogging.
