Red Sweater Software has acquired MarsEdit, a popular blogging publishing software, previously owned by NewsGator Technologies and previous to that by Ranchero.

NewsGator Technologies focuses on its RSS platform, NetNewsWire, and MarsEdit was not being featured as it could be. This acquisition frees up NewsGator to focus exclusively on NetNewsWire and give attention to the MarsEdit platform and updates.

MarsEdit has taken quite the path to where it is now after two acquisitions. Red Sweater intends to keep upgrades going out for 1.x releases as free.
