If You Build Them, They Will Come

Last week I posted on the importance of link building, and today I would like to expand on that topic a bit.  The purpose of blog marketing is to get your weblog as much exposure as possible in the hope that the end result will be customers who are interested in the services you provide.

There are many ways to link build.  Check out other blogs within the same industry as your company and leave comments on their posts.  Visit forums in the same genre and post there, leaving a trail behind you.  By this I mean inserting links that will lead potential customers back to your site.  If you are posting in blogs, social media sites and forums that are of the same nature as your own business, it would be safe to assume that the people who are reading their blogs would also be interested in the services that you have to offer.

I need to clarify something here, however.  Linking back to your own site needs to be done strategically, or else you may just get a figurative citation from the anti-spam police.  You must make the linkage legitimate.  For example, if the blog post you are commenting on is about some pharmaceutical company’s recent recall and your comment links back to your site, which strictly sells sport apparel, you will likely be considered a link-spammer.  Obviously your blog marketing strategy is to gain customers, but it is also about demonstrating credibility to them and to your company.

One final smart way to build links that people do not always think of is internally.  Many people rack their brains trying to find ways to obtain linkage into and out of their sites through external sources, such as the few that were mentioned above.  You can also establish some pretty effective link building right on your own site.  When you write an article, link it back to another location on your site.  When you post on your blog, link it back…okay, you get the point.  But, in all seriousness, do not underestimate the power that your own blog can have in the whole process of building links in order to optimize your internal resources for link building.
