Building Search Engine Visibility
Building search engine visibility is a process that takes effort and time. Too often we are caught up in the notion that if we use the right words at the right time, we will have tons of traffic. And while it is true that keywords and timing are important, they are only a part of the whole package.
One of the greatest things a blog can do for a traditional website is provide new content on a regular basis.
Search engines like websites that have regularly updated content. Here’s why: Search engines send out “spiders” in search of information with which they update their search engine results.
If you don’t update your content regularly, the spiders “learn” that your site doesn’t need to be indexed as often…this means fewer trips to your site, less content in search rankings. But, if you update your site regularly, spiders “learn” that your site has new information more often, and thus, is in need of updating. This is important because you want search engine traffic to your site to be relevant. Each time your site is indexed, you will have more content to search. Make sense?
Here’s where keywords really get the biggest bang for the buck. By using your keywords in a consistent way in your posts, the search engines will associate you more and more with a particular phrase. Over time, you can increase your search engine results for phrases that accurately describe your business and blog, leading more customers to find you.
