Build Out a Profile on Google

I know, I have listed at least 500 social media sites that have required you to build out a profile. And now I am asking you to fill out another. Google User Profiles is probably one of the easiest I have ever completed. And it has great potential for blog optimization. Anything that helps Google understand your site better will make it more likely that you will show up in search results more frequently.

Honestly, I didn’t even realize that I could build out a Google profile. Now, I am not talking about Google Friend Connect…I did build one out there. No, this is just a profile that is not unlike a lifestream aggregator.

Your profile collects information from around the web, about you and posts it in one location. At this point, you can search for other people’s profiles, but you can’t connect them to your own.

I don’t fully understand why Google is implementing this type of profile, but I suspect it has to do with web profiles that stand on their own, separate from an application.

I would recommend filling out your profile for a number of reasons. One, you can easily add links to your blogs from this site. Two, it helps Google make associations between specific information and you. And three, anything that helps Google notice your website or blog is a good thing.

It will only take a few minutes to fill it out. Get it established and watch for future announcements as they roll out the various features of their profile.
