Blogging on Empty
You have been sitting at your PC for an hour and your screen shows nothing but a blank editing page. Sound familiar? Pro-blogger.com has archived a series of posts designed to beat back “Blogger Apathy”. One practical suggestion that is especially effective in dispelling blog boredom is just to simply ask questions.
Invite questions from your readers - get your readers involved in your blog by setting the agenda for you to write about over the next few weeks of your blogging. Once again this is about stimulating ideas for topics.
That method proves especially productive for Copywriter Bob Bly who threads his blog with posts that, in essence, asks his reader to brainstorm with him, resulting in exactly the conversations blogs are famous for. Bob succeeds in gaining insight into his market while allowing his reader to feel that their opinions are valued.
On another level, Josh Bancroft at IT-Intel.blog , dealing with “blogger block”, simply titles a post “What Do You Want?”
I’m not sure what I could talk about that would be interesting and useful. So, since this is supposed to be a conversation, let me ask!
What kind of things do you want to read about here? You ask, we’ll answer. Deal?
Bancroft unwittingly captures the essential appeal a blog offers; authenticity. And his readers oblige with enough suggestions to take care of at least a few days worth of posts. Nothing keeps a blogger more engaged in creating good content than to know that his reader is equally engaged.
Go ahead, ask. You’ll likely find it a productive exercise. It certainly beats a blank screen.
