Blogging Hiatus: What To Say After You’ve Been Gone
So. What do you say when you have been away from blogging for awhile? How does one conduct a smooth re-entry? That is what I’m pondering as we resume posting here at RSS Applied. Well, we’ll learn that together, since I’ve found some good suggestions in my search for that very answer.

But first, apologies are in order. Not to suggest that a brief absence has made finding good reading on blog marketing harder to come across. But our loyal readers have noticed our hiatus and we thank you for your many inquires.
And you know what? It can happen to you. Especially vulnerable are small business owners. If there is only one blogger responsible for a company’s business blogging, his or her absence can make a blog appear abandoned. Except with your most avid fans, absence does not make the heart grow fonder.
From PinoyBlogero.com
“What do you expect your readers will do if you don’t provide them with anything to read? Obviously, they will leave your blog and look for others. However, depending on how loyal they are, expect them to come back every once in awhile.
This is where your relationship with your readers comes in. Treat them right, answer their questions, listen to their comments, and give them what they want and you will earn their trust and respect.
Establish a good relationship with your readers, that is the key.
If you fail to establish any interactions with your visitors, then it wouldn’t take much time for your blog to be abandoned.”
It all goes back to relationship. So your prior efforts in developing relationship and relevance for your readers will serve well you during a brief hiatus. And if that relationship wasn’t developed, then your return to blogging ought to have that one goal in mind.
You will also find that all of your search engine optimization work, if done well, will keep paying dividends past your last post.
“You may think that the effects on readership and traffic are the same, but you are wrong, because even without readers, your blog can still have the capacity to have traffic. Namely, from search engines.
Obviously, your blog’s traffic would drop considerably if you don’t post anything on your blog. However, depending on how “visible” your blog is and how “interesting” your articles are, expect search engines to continue sending traffic to your blog.”
There is more to be read at the link above. As usual, blogging basics will not only successfully launch your blog, but will see your blog through any short absences. And if you haven’t fine tuned your SEO, provided relevant content for your readers, or made an effort to interact with your market’s online communities, well, you might not have had that many readers to lose to begin with. So if you are going to plunge back into blogging, be sure to practice the basics. And be sure to find a back-up blogger.
