Blog Training with Posterous

Blog Training with Posterous is a great way to get used to blogging on a regular basis. Posterous is a quick and easy way to create short posts via email. No sign up, no profile to create, just an email account where you send your posts.

Here’s the home screen…you will notice at the top Posterous makes it easy to start posting right away by giving you an email (posts@posterous.com) account which you can use to send your posts…then, attach photos, videos, mp3’s and files.

Posterous immediately emails you with your new blog address…and you are set….blog complete.

Obviously, this is a really limited format, and actually, it functions a bit like a microblog (similar to Twitter), with more characters. While it is not a good platform for a business blog, it has its uses.

So, here comes the “is there a practical application” test…For Posterous, I will say yes and no. If you have a business that has 1) a high profile 2) high user interaction 3) products and services, then I will say no, this is not worth your time.

However, if you 1) want to try a blog with training wheels 2) want to journal a live event 3) have a primarily photo-based business, this is a good tool for you to use.

As I reviewed Posterous, I realized that in addition to being an oversimplified blogging format, it could also serve as an ancillary blog…follow me here…sort of a sub-blog where you could post real time updates (and files) without irritating your regular followers.

Case in point, recently, I used Twitter to live blog about a conference I attended. Rather than microblogging it there, I could have established a Posterous blog and directed followers that link.

Posterous has potential, but if you are an established business, it is not an application that is worth an investment of time.
