Blog Site Marketing
Blog Marketing is how I spent a good bit of today. Not marketing my own blog, but helping someone else with theirs.
Want to know what I was doing earlier today? I received, and then acted upon, an email from a friendly competitor who writes about the same subject I do in one of the other blogs I write.
He had reached out to me for my help marketing not only his blog, but a fairly compelling blog entry. This was to spread the word about a scoop that he had- to spread the word beyond his own readership to other eyeballs.
This fellow thought I could help him market his blog post. He reached out to me, and I was glad to help. Two key reasons why: I thought my readers would be interested in what he had just posted, and there’s the implication that if I need to expose any of my posts to a wider audience, he would be glad to return the favor.
OK, I will take the mystery out of this. When I am not blogging in the online neighborhood you and me are meeting here now, one of the other duties I have is running The BlackBerry Beat blog for technology news and reviews site ZDNet. (Hey, I just snuck in a link, so guess you can say I am practicing what I preach by doing a little personal Blog Marketing here).
That’s beside the point, though.
Just so happens that today is a big day in the BlackBerry world. The new BlackBerry Curve (8300) was announced early this morning. And I have learned over the years that the large and vocal BlackBerry customer base gets real excited when new BlackBerrys join the sales channels.
Simon from BlackBerry Cool knows this as well. Darn him, he got a review copy of the BlackBerry Curve first. Not only that, but he just posted a review of the device just a couple of hours ago.
Right after Simon made his post, he emailed me, telling me that he had done so, and asking me if I would like to “take a peek” at what he had just put up.
In His email, Simon might have said, “take a read and then link to the post if you would like.” But since his site and mine (as well as my previous BlackBerry site had done the link exchange thing before, the implication was there. He didn’t have to say it, but the implication was and is, take a read, and if you like this post, it would be great if you could link to it.
Even though BlackBerry Cool and my blog are somewhat competitive, we have a better-than-cordial relationship. That may be true with your blog and those blogs published for, or even by, your indirect business competitors, suppliers, customers, etc.
If that’s the case, how about approaching them with a link exchange proposal when you have a post that you think their readers (and customers) might be interested in linking to?
