Blog promotions should never begin without thorough preparation and never more so when launching a new blog.

A friend asked a seasoned colleague what answer to give if his first buyers asked how long he had been in the real estate business. “Just tell them it seems like forever and then start selling.” Of course, even when selling “your first customer”, you’ve done your homework and can handle what you’ve been training for.

The same is true of a blog. If you do some basic preparation, it will never look like a brand new blog. Though every blog must have a beginning, it is best to start with a fairly robust offering and few clues that your are wet behind the ears.

Your design is aesthetically sharp but easy to navigate. You have done all the keyword research for search engine optimization, you have taken some blog training, and your blog platform takes full advantage of all the marketing tools that the technology offers, including implementing multiple RSS streams for subscribers.

  1. Don’t advertise your subscriber numbers
  2. Get your first 15-25 posts out quickly so theres a decent amount of content on the site.
  3. Get rid of date based archives or anything that immediately shows how new your blog is.
  4. Either get comments or remove comments.
  5. Jumpstart things with a review, advert or some other traffic source.
  6. Have non-post content on the site as well.
  7. Don’t run advertisements in the first month.
  8. Make sure your content is original!
  9. Use Images and Diagrams
