Blog Promotion, Part 2

Blog promotion, as we mentioned in the previous post, is the result of several factors. And consistency and authenticity are the main priorities of generating real, repeat traffic. That said, it doesn’t mean you don’t need to build your virtual network.

Though blogging may seem like a solo activity, it is actually something that grows through regular networking and community building. I suggest that bloggers build a marketing plan that is based on a diversified approach. It is a common mistake to focus on building traffic through one main source. There is always the possibility that source will stop referring, which could cause severe damage to your readership.

Creating a community of readers for your blog takes time, and there are many options for reaching out. Start by finding other bloggers who write about your interest areas. Become a regular follower of their blog and leave comments when you find something of interest. Through these relationships, you can build inbound links, which will result in increased search engine ratings. You will also build a support network, learn more about your topic, and tips of the trade.

Using social media tools like Twitter and Facebook can be valuable. However, it is important for you to really evaluate the amount of time spent on using these tools for the purpose of building traffic. It is easy to get sucked down the black hole of social media applications, costing more time and energy than it is worth. Set aside some of your marketing time for researching the right applications for your blog.
Remember, be yourself and post in a consistent way. These two things are still the major predictor of the ongoing success of your blog.
