Blog Optimization: Making Small Changes Increases Traffic

Blog optimization is critical to building a successful readership. By making small changes here and there, you can increase your traffic significantly.

Start by looking at your titles. Are they clever and witty, but not search engine friendly? Keep in mind that search engines will notice not just what is said, but the order of the words.

Next, make sure that your title and your post line up. The same words that you use in the title, should appear in your post, preferrably at the beginning.

Keywords are an important concept to understand when thinking about blog optimization. There are several sites that will help you find the keywords your customer is using when searching. Try using SEO Book or the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. Some blogging platforms also come with the ability to suggest words.

Once your key words are established, make sure you use them as tags, as text, as title. More than almost anything else, consistency (and the use of the right words) will bring readers to your site.

I would never suggest that you base your entire posts on these concepts, but rather that you use this information at a strategic level. Since keywords are based on your industry, it should be relatively easy to work them into your post.

Don’t give up the passion and drive that you have for writing, as in the long run, it is content that will keep people engaged once they have found you.
