5 Resolutions for a New Year of Blogging

New Year’s resolutions are a tradition that I have tried to avoid. Still, I think they do have purpose and can get the year started on the right foot. Creating a blog optimization strategy is a great way to kick off 2009…so here are 5 resolutions for a new year of blogging. Give them a try, you might be surprised at the difference it will make.

  1. Write a post a day, five days per week for one year. Yep, this is a big commitment, thought I would start with the big guns. And in so doing, you will overcome the challenges that are most likely  to prevent success…writer’s block, building readership, understanding all of those damn plug-ins…
  2. Create a category in Delicious for your blog research and stock it full of relevant sites that you can draw from all year long. Saves having to do it every time you sit down to write.
  3. Identify a handful of industry leaders and read their blogs religiously for the next year.
  4. Develop a (new) list of keywords that covers the breadth of your blog and use it every single post.
  5. Install an analytics package…Google offers a lot of information for very little work. And, instead of just using it to see how many people come to your page…use it as market research to help guide your post topics.

Though it is only a list of 5 things, some of them will take quite a lot of work…but all are absolutely worth the effort. Start the new year with a blogging strategy, it will make your work easier and infinitely more effective.
