2009 Blogging Predictions

What’s the future for blogging in 2009? There are those who say that it will fizzle out and take its place in the history of the internet…but I disagree…More and more of us are looking to our peers for information instead of big business. So, it makes sense that blogs will definitely stick around.

I suspect that the format will shift a bit, though…more of a hybrid between a traditional blog and a microblog. This shortened, but high content, version of posting fits the time we have available to digest information. Their are already a couple of sites like Tumblr, that have a similar format.

In the next 18 months or so, I suspect Twitter and Plurk will develop their microblogging formats to all for better search, greater segmentation and greater data collection. It wouldn’t surprise me to see either of them create some version of this hybrid blog, harnessing the power of real time communication in conjunction with a blog format.

We haven’t begun to see the end of the blog…in fact, I don’t think we even fully understand the potential for blogs as communication devices….and I look forward to see what 2009 brings.
