ShowBuzz.com Launched by CBS

A sort of Entertainment Tonight that just goes on and on, everyday, is what CBS is bringing their adoring public in the form of ShowBuzz.com.  I can’t see this site reaching the community that Gawker reaches, being it will be far too ’safe’, but CBS is trying their best to reach online celeb watchers and this site is the first step for them.  The site, a fixed width site that is larger than 800px, is full of dish and gossip about celebrities and already boasts a site sponsor in Noxema.

Oddly enough, they’ve chosen a domain name (theshowbuzz.com) that is easily confused with one owned by someone not connected to CBS (showbuzz.com), being that he’s got no page up and he’s owned his site since 1997.  Another name or a buyout of this other site may have been a good idea before launch.

Regardless, the site is done in aesthetically pleasing colors and looks to be well designed to reach their target, teeny bopper market.  In fact, other than the constant site refresh ala Yahoo! News and the subsequent mobile browser issues they will face on that front, the site will probably do well with their demographic.  However, if they don’t change the auto-refresh rate, or remove it altogether, they are going to lose out on mobile viewers (ie a large part of their target market).
