Killing Your Blog

Blog death is so common, partially because people are fickle and partially because it is far too easy to start a blog.  You get a great idea, do 10 minutes of research and you think you are ready to start blogging.

Of course, we all start blogging this way, so this is not intended to make you feel bad if this is the way you began.  I’ve killed several blogs in the past year and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I learned a great deal from those blogging missteps and I even profited from a few of them along the way.

Sometimes blogs run their course and sometimes we do things to kill them, before their time has come.  Darren Rowse has a post that describes common ways to kill a blog.  One blog killer that I particularly wanted to share with you:

3. Blogger Burn Out - A common scenario for bloggers
who’ve been at it for a while is that they simply burn themselves out
and/or become disillusioned with their blog (or even blogging in
general). This can come as a result of the criticism of readers (or
other bloggers), a bout of bloggers block or simply because they’ve
over extended themselves with too many projects or by the size of the
topic that they’ve been trying to cover.

Sometimes you do just burn out.  It’s difficult to maintain a blog for a long period of time.  After the initial fun wears off, we realize that blogging really can be hard work.

Some of our blogging clients are excellent writers that even know SEO well, but they just don’t have the time to maintain their blog daily.  Often outsourcing a topical blog’s writing can relieve a heavy burden on the owner and can produce positive results.  And, of course, you prevent blogger burnout that way as well.
