Email Spam Solutions?

While RSS is a great tool for marketing, email will always be necessary as well.  For opt-in marketing, the delivery method is great, but because of spam concerns many feel a change must be made to avoid destroying the medium altogether.

Skylist is one company that is working to create a whitelist of email domains, and a blacklist.  By customer complaints, customers will be able to filter out the companies that have a lower rating than they approve.

Also, Skylist as recently announced centralized frequency caps:

Also key to reputation management is a new feature that allows
centralized frequency caps across business units–ensuring that even if
different departments are sending out e-mails to customers, each
customer receives only a limited number of e-mails a week. The service
also prioritizes certain e-mails–such as billing–over others, such as
ad messages.

This system has the potential to be ‘gamed’ as any other, but for the moment it’s the smartest thing I’ve seen to avoid the solution of per email charges.
