Web 2.0 Alert: Another Company Sold, Another TV Network Tiptoes Into The Internet Marketing Scene

ivillage sells to NBCNBC purchased iVillage for a whopping $600M.  Of course, that’s still a few million shy of what iVillage wanted to bring, but what’s a few million dollars between friends?

NBC Universal will pay $8.50 a share to acquire 100 percent of
iVillage; that comes to about $600 million. It’s the first major
internet acquisition for NBCU in some time and the biggest move for
digital media since Beth Comstock was appointed president of NBCU
Digital Media and Marketing late last year. They’re looking for a 2Q06
close pending shareholder and regulatory approval.

The woman’s site catered to pregnant clubs, children’s emotional problems and female message boards, among other things.  As important as the site is the eyeball’s purchased.  iVillage is not a newcomer and their visitorship is solid.
