RocketBoom Auction Ends Today
Rocketboom, one of the most successful video podcasts put their advertising up for auction on Ebay, and the much-hyped auction ends today.
As of today, the highest bid has been $15K, but that is below the undisclosed minimum bid. This is the first podcast advertising auction, that I’ve heard of on Ebay.
While $15K sounds like a sizeable fee for a week’s worth of daily advertising, remember RocketBoom has a very targeted audience of 130K or more downloads daily. The coveted spot could be compared to a network television spot, even though the numbers are lower, because of the tight niche they have virtually conquered, in terms of popularity.
Many advertisers might balk at the idea of giving up all rights to their ads. But Baron says the ads will feel more organic to the show’s often offbeat content if marketers take a backseat in the production process. “They don’t have much to lose by letting us do it,” he said.
I actually think the ads will perform better BECAUSE they are in RocketBoom’s hands. The people responsible for such a resounding success in vidcasting surely know their demographic better than a PR firm or business that isn’t even podcasting.
