RSS feeds and your mobile phone

A few weeks ago I wrote about a service that sends an instant message every time
a selected RSS feed is updated
. This is one way to make sure you are
rapidly appraised of any time sensitive developments online. There are
several other means of achieving the same ends, however.

Your mobile
phone, mixed with RSS, may be a key way to be notified of matters requiring
immediate attention as well. Similarly, if you are publishing information
online that requires immediate attention, publishing in RSS as well as on a web
page enables these same methods to be utilized by your employees, customers or
whoever needs to know as quickly as possible about information you want to
share.

RSS and your mobile device can be integrated in at least two
ways.

  • You can receive alerts to your phone whenever a selected feed is updated.
  • You can read feeds on your phone.

Imagine the increased
effectiveness of employee productivity monitoring, sales calls and a variety of
other communications that could be made possible by knowing that you have the
most up to date information available. If you haven’t received an alert
about it, then you can feel confident knowing that there is nothing more recent
online than what you last read in your feeds.
