You may wonder why such attention is given to link building, since it seems such a trivial part of a content site.  But, don’t underestimate the importance of SEO and link building for your site.

• SEO (search engine optimization)
  Links to your site, from similar sites (that part is important), and from quality sites (again, very important) will help your site gain page rank.  And, page rank is how the search engines decide how high up in the search listings your site appears.
• Traffic
  Other than the traffic you will garner from the search engines, your site will get traffic from those links on quality sites.  If I link to your site here, there’s a good chance my readers will decide to follow that link to your site.

Don’t forget to consider link building when designing your content strategy.  Links and content, together, will determine your traffic, and therefore your online visibility and voice.
