Feeds, Rich Media Enclosures, and the Little Details That Mean So Much
Podcast marketing isn’t hard, once you understand the basics. However, feed conversion and enclosures are tricky. I’ve helped clients submit their podcast feed to iTunes who use free blogging
platforms like Blogger and they have to convert their feed to one that
supports rich media enclosures. Usually, they’ll choose to use Feedburner for conversion. Then they’ll have to manually upload their album art to Feedburner. It’s not difficult at all, but it is an additional step. Then choose the directories to ping, the tracking details you want, the synopsis and other related information and you’re done.
If you are using a Blogsite, the RSS feed for your Blogsite requires no conversion, it automatically supports rich media enclosures. It also automatically includes the album art, the tracking, the synopsis, and everything else you’ll need for iTunes. The only thing you’ll need to do is submit the feed from your Blogsite to the iTunes directory. It will dynamically discover the relevant information from your Blogsite feed. The process is so much simpler.
And, take a look at your relevance. Once you’re listed, which can take up to a week, do a search in the podcast directory for some of your keywords. Notice the relevancy meter and how high Blogsites rank with absolutely no work on your part. The search engine visibility of a Blogsite is amazing, whether on Google, Yahoo!, MSN, or even iTunes.
Make sure to place the iTunes chicklet on your Blogsite and submit to other podcast directories (like Yahoo!’s new beta service). Questions? Leave it in the comments and I’ll try to answer them asap.
