Small Businesses Are Blogging

From dentists to grocers, more and more small businesses are choosing to market their brand through intimate business blogs.  These business owners understand the importance of keeping their name in front of their customers and prospects as much as possible.  And, compared to print and television, blogging is less expensive and is just as likely to give a good return on investment (ROI).

In a PBN.com article, the blog experts gave this advice:

“You don’t just want to advertise,” said Prichard, of business blogging, “because people want to read something that is interesting. Usually what people will do is write something interesting about their profession or industry.”

Holland agreed. However, she noted that business owners want to include some important information in their blogs, such as their phone number, address, hours of operation and key words that consumers may enter into a search engine.

They ended reminding bloggers to be cognizant of their verbiage, always remembering their audience is made up of customers and competitors, noting some high-level blogger terminations at large companies.  Also, they reminded business bloggers not to advertise, per se, but to creatively discuss their business with passion.  Holland, one of the experts mentioned just how important search engine placement was for a business blog.

More than half the time, online shoppers use Web search engines to find local goods and services, Holland said. “Therefore, it’s very important to show up on those Internet search results for Rhode Island.”
